What are my options for rugs?

Rugs are a key component in interior design. They define specific areas and protect floors, while adding warmth, colour and texture to a room. The simple addition of a rug can transform a room for a fraction of the cost of redecorating.

Carpet Court sell a selection of stunning rugs in many different styles, from traditional to modern, and alfresco to kids’ rugs – all in different sizes, shapes, colours, patterns and textures. Rugs, like carpet, can be made from wool or synthetic fibres, with benefits to be found in both fabrics.

In the family home a soft, luxurious rug is a great way to soften a hard floor where kids might get down to play. Traditional rugs in certain styles such as Oriental or Persian can further enhance your chosen home décor. In large, open-plan designs they can break up a solid expanse of plain carpet.

When choosing a rug consideration should not only be given to the shape, colour and texture, but to the size. A rug should be big enough to reach each piece of furniture in your lounge room so that a portion of each component of your lounge suite, coffee table, occasional chairs and side tables should touch the rug.

Choosing a colour

A rug can be a bold focal point for your colour palette, using hues from the rug to add splashes of colour into the room with objects such as lamps or cushions. Alternatively, a rug can be a soft neutral shade which enhances the theme created by other items such as your lounge suite or artwork. A natural, earthy rug blending on a timber floor can be a beautiful base upon which to sit a stunning red or blue leather lounge suite, for example.

Each of the rugs in Carpet Court’s ‘Traditional’ range of rugs come in a variety of colours to suit every home décor. Consider the Abode Diamond rug, a rectangular rug made of natural fibres available in nine amazing colours. Choose from the neutral shades of Grey, Black, Chocolate or Beige or add a splash of colour to the room with Yellow, Pink, Green, Red or Purple.

What are the benefits of natural fibres?

Rugs made from natural carpet fibres, such as wool, are long wearing and have an organic beauty of their own. They are soil and stain resistant and have excellent natural fire resistance, making them a safe and ideal choice in homes with children and pets.

Adding a comfortable rug in natural fibres to your floor can create an inviting space to relax and stretch out. Get down amongst the pets and the kids and join in their games, or lay back and listen to music. Stretch those muscles and treat yourself to some relaxing yoga poses, all on a soft, natural, comfortable rug.

What patterns work in a rug?

A patterned rug is a creative way to bring interest into a room which is otherwise neutral. Patterns can work in either a complementary or contrasting sense, tying together a number of elements in the room.

Patterns in a rug can be soft and subtle, often incorporating texture and weaves to create a muted pattern, or bold and dynamic, such as a geometric pattern. When combining patterns close attention should be given to blending the underlying colour tones, for patterns and colours in a room shouldn’t compete.

The Abode Diamond rectangular rug has a fine, close-knit geometric pattern, bringing a sense of space and movement to the room. Combined with contrasting patterns in the same colour palette, the Abode Diamond rug is a cost-effective way to liven up a room.

Patterns may be gentle and graceful, such as those featured in Carpet Court’s Ruby range of rugs, or be bold and definitive, such as those in the Haven range.

Patterned rugs are a great way to add colour and fun to a child’s bedroom or playroom. Choose from Carpet Court’s selection of kids’ rugs in gorgeous animal prints, pastels or bold rainbow colours to create a playful environment for your child. Have fun carrying the rug theme through to the curtains, walls or bedspreads, or mix and match the patterns and colours to build a unique, bold statement in your own style.

Are Carpet Court’s rugs made from hard wearing materials?

Yes. Rugs in natural fibres from renewable resources such as 100% cotton or wool have a natural durability and are stain and fire resistant while contributing an organic, luxurious feel to your room. They are easy to vacuum and if cleaned up promptly spills won’t penetrate their natural barrier.

Carpet Court’s synthetic rugs in materials such as viscose, polypropylene, acrylic and micro fibre are also hard wearing and bring a number of benefits to high traffic areas within the busy household. Synthetic rugs can be easy to clean, mould resistant, anti-static, and non-shedding.
