Considerations for Upgrading your Floor

Provide some insight into the products that you selected, and why you selected them.

A: We decided to install Carpet Court’s Florence Rigid Hybrid flooring in Ghosted Blackbutt to the main living areas and hallway of our home, as we felt it was the perfect neutral colour to bring warmth to the space. With ongoing renovations, two young boys, and a dog, we also needed a quality floor that was highly durable so that we could future-proof our home for when we eventually turn it into a rental property.

For the carpet, we selected Carpet Court’s Genesis range in Eaves made with ECONYL® regenerated nylon - a special yarn obtained from the regeneration of pre and post-consumer waste, such as old carpets, fishing nets, and fabric scraps. We wanted something durable for this space that was still also soft and warm underfoot, making this the perfect option for our home. As it’s made from recycled materials, we loved that we could make an eco-friendly decision for our home. The Eaves colourway is also a lovely beige-grey which harmonises beautifully with our existing interior scheme.

When it came to flooring, what was your brief? Were there any particular requirements or lifestyle factors that you needed to consider in the selection product?

A: When deciding on our flooring, there were two key considerations: how it looked and its durability. The flooring we selected fit the brief in both respects - it matched our aesthetic and we knew that because of its robustness, we wouldn’t have to replace it for a long time.

Did you consider any current interior or flooring “trends” when selecting your flooring/carpet?

A: We didn’t consider any interior flooring trends when selecting our timber and flooring, but knew that by opting for something with a neutral colour scheme, we would be working with something that was timeless.

What are your top three tips for selecting the right carpet for your home?

A: Colours and samples - Select complimentary colours and take a few samples of your favourite options home to view them in different levels of light - morning, afternoon and night.
Go light - Don’t be afraid to go with the lighter option. In our experience, lighter carpet shows less mess, meaning we don’t have to worry about vacuuming as much.
Functionality - Consider how it will be used. Will it be installed in a high traffic zone Do you allow pets on the carpet? For the best advice, head into Carpet Court store and speak to the experts. Be ready and armed with this information so they can direct you to the right flooring for you.

What are your top three tips for selecting the right flooring for your home?

A: Varied samples - Take home a few variations in colour, even one or two you may not have thought you’d pick. You’ll be surprised how different they can look at home.
Functionality (again) - Consider how it will be used. Because of the kids and the dog, it was important to us to find hardwood flooring that was waterproof and scratch resistant.
Listen to the experts - I can’t tell you how many times I thought I knew what I wanted, and ended up with something different after sitting down with the experts at our local Carpet Court store.

How long did the carpet and flooring process take with Carpet Court? Did you have to undertake any preparation before the install of each?

A: This is our eighth house project and we wouldn’t go anywhere else but Carpet Court for our flooring. The process is always quick and easy! They go out of their way to help and meet our time frames. In terms of preparation, all that we had to do was make sure that the areas that we wanted to update were flat and clean - they handled the rest!

What advice would you give to someone undertaking a renovation when it comes to upgrading your flooring or carpet?

A: After almost two years of running our virtual renovation consultancy and design business, we have helped more than 400 clients, and encounter this question a lot. Our advice is always the same - head into your local Carpet Court store and chat to the experts. They will help you find the perfect solution for your home, family and budget.
