FUNCTIONAL MEETS STYLE

Sarah and George, runners up from The Block 2020, take us through their thought process when selecting carpet for their home.

Provide some insight into the product that you selected, what are its key benefits and features? (eco-friendly features, soft to touch, robust, etc.)
A: We have always wanted to have carpet upstairs - one that was not only durable, but also looked amazing. When we went to our local Carpet Court store, we came across their exclusive carpet range made from ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon, which was exactly that. We particularly loved the Expanse range, as the loop was beautiful and textured. The colourway that we selected is called Alder - a soft warm grey that worked perfectly for our home. After we installed the carpet, we realised how soft it was under our feet. It’s a magnificent carpet because of its durability, its texture and more than anything, its eco friendly features which made the selection a no-brainer.

Why did you select ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon as the carpet for your home? In what areas of the home has it been used?
A: We selected ECONYL® regenerated nylon as the carpet for our home purely because we loved that it was a nylon blend carpet yet didn’t hold back on the luxury. The colour and texture of the carpet was a standout for us. We have used this carpet throughout our whole upstairs area, including our stairs, upstairs living room and bedrooms.

When it came to carpet, what was your brief? Were there any particular requirements or lifestyle factors that needed to be considered before making your selection?
A: Our upstairs is a place where our kids will grow up and we knew that there would be lots of traffic and stains in our family home, so we knew that we needed a durable carpet. This was a top priority when searching for the perfect carpet - something that could truly withstand the test of time but also look and feel incredible.

Why did you select ECONYL® Regenerated Nylon as the carpet for your home? In what areas of the home has it been used?
A: Having a keen eye for interiors, we absolutely look at what is trending. At the moment, textured carpets are high on the list of trendy interiors. The type of textural loop as seen in the Expanse range really warms up a home and brings any space to life.

What are your top 5 tips for selecting the right carpet for your home? (materials, colour, durability, etc.)

A:
1- Durability
2- Colour
3- Stain and soil resistance
4- Luxurious look and feel
5- Eco-friendly qualities

Tell us about the colour and loop pile of your selected carpet. Why did you select these specific features?
A: The colour that we selected for our carpet was Alder - it’s a warm grey with speckles of white throughout the carpet. Given it’s not a flat grey, it’s great for hiding dirt and also reflects the light beautifully in a space. It is so textured and really looks like genuine wool carpet, and we love that it looks so luxurious yet so durable.

How long did the carpet installation process take with Carpet Court? Did you have to undertake any preparation before the install? Please provide details.
A: The carpet installation process only took half a day! We had removed our own carpet and disposed of it before the team at Carpet Court came to install it. We saved time and money by removing the carpet ourselves, which is something that I would recommend to anyone taking on a home or flooring renovation.

What was the biggest setback during the early stages of your renovation, and how did you overcome it?
A: We were fortunate to have very few set backs during the flooring renovation. The only challenge that we encountered was positioning the carpet so that the loop ran vertically up the stairs, and then vertically on the landing. Carpet Court were amazing at getting the job done though!
