Not so long ago, I had a dire situation where my proper backyard should have been – it was full of dirt, bricks, a very run-down retaining wall and overgrown garden that made my backyard only usable for the purpose of my dogs to get some relief.
Since then, my courtyard thankfully had some relief with the installation of Carpet Court’s LuxTurf.
I gave the space a complete overhaul, and installed a new retaining wall, PlaySafe ProPlay 20mm Pads, PetFresh Granules and LuxPremium to top it all off, allowing my drab and dirty backyard to spring back to life with renewed purpose as an outdoor entertaining area (and not just for the dogs).

Currently, I’m using another product in the LuxTurf range for a tiny house renovation I’m working on in Hyams Beach. This time I’m looking forward to seeing the change that the LuxLife synthetic turf will make to an outdoor space.
Because the area is in high shade and needs to cover an existing concrete slab, there’s not a better, more natural looking outdoor flooring solution to extend the outdoor area for entertaining than artificial grass.
I selected LuxLife – with a 30mm pile height – as it has realistic green and brown fibers that make it look authentic. That means you have a nice, manicured lawn-look with colourings that naturally tie into the trees and surrounding gardens.
The tiny home has a decking that flows from the interior, so the LuxLife turf is the perfect extension to the outdoor living space. The entertaining space is going to tie together nicely with greyed timber decking, a grey pave-look tiling and the LuxLife brown fibres, making it appear natural and inviting.
You can install turf throughout your whole backyard – as I did in the first instance – or just in a section of an outdoor space, as I did in the second instance. I also considered using a tiled border around the edge of the turfed area, so that you get the refinement that comes with delineating a space – as you would with an area rung – with a fully exposed outdoor area, it wasn’t an appropriate decision.
Another way to use artificial turf is to work with natural undulations of the earth, covering mounds and rises in the landscape – which can make products like LuxComfort look even more realistic. This can be trickier to install and would require the input of a professional, but it works!
For a great DIY option, you can look to the LuxReady turf - its 8mm pile height and 970gsm yarn weight makes it easier to lift and move around. It also requires no infill, making it great for balconies, courtyards and other DIY areas.
With different colourings, pile heights and general aesthetics each product in the LuxTurf range gives a different result. Whatever your challenge, situation, location, or installation requirements are, there’s a product within the LuxTurf range to suit any home or project.
