Stone Effect

Stone Effect | Style Stories

Darren Palmer has a broad portfolio, having studied fine art & graphic design, originally working in advertising and owning his own graphic design company. After succumbing to his true passion, Darren now operates his own interior design studio and has been a judge on numerous seasons of The Block.

2019 will see a variety of colours and applications of stone effects – and not just in expected places such as tiles and flooring , but also in fabrics, accessories, furniture, wallcoverings and soft furnishings. From the real thing, photorealistic through to the inspired, interiors will see stone effects employed in graphically, aesthetically creative and dynamic ways.

Expect to see wall coverings and fabrics with photorealistic stone treatments, such as stacked stone-to-stone and veined effects, but with a metallic finish or playful take on colour for an edge. The representations of stone cross-cuts and patterns will also feature, but in interesting patterns to create a striking visual juxtaposition.

Textural features, such as the flaking and layering of natural stone will be applied to rugs and cushions, through variation of pile height or surface changes to reflect the natural topography of stone surfaces. This literal approach of stone topography on textiles will lend itself to complementary colours that are grounded in nature.

Stone and stone-like effects add warmth, tactility, timelessness and uniqueness to interiors. Pair décor items that have interesting stone effect applications with your real stone furniture pieces or accessories – the authentic and the faux will be united in style as each will take on the other’s colour palettes, as well as metallic inclusions.
