Darren Palmer has a broad portfolio, having studied fine art & graphic design, originally working in advertising and owning his own graphic design company. After succumbing to his true passion, Darren now operates his own interior design studio and has been a judge on numerous seasons of The Block.

This style might be a flash back to the '80s, but the tubular style we’re seeing in an abundance of furniture and décor at the moment is right on trend for spring.

Using bent metal in tubular forms to create interesting objects and décor pieces, the trend lends itself perfectly to the energy and vibrancy of a spring home rejuvenation.

Advances in technology and the use of digital design have combined for this trend, creating interesting geometric forms through the bending of metal  - producing strong and versatile furniture pieces. Powder coating also gives the opportunity for gloss or matt finishes, muted, bold or bright colours, allowing for a modern and personalised approach to your home’s spring furniture additions.

As with anything inspired by another era, it’s the way that a style is reinterpreted that makes it interesting. Look for curves in furniture as an extension of the simple straight lines seen in more predictable furniture pieces. The metals’ properties allow for extrapolation of form into weird and wonderful shapes that become sculptural as well as beautifully functional.

Tables, furniture legs, chairs, occasional furniture and even lighting can get the totally tubular treatment and can be the starting point for a full redesign of your interior style.

Another throwback to the '80s is Berber carpet and it’s exciting to know that this style is right back on trend. Check out Carpet Court’s Far North carpet in colour Palm Cove, or Country Texture in colour Serena.
