Darren Palmer has a broad portfolio, having studied fine art & graphic design, originally working in advertising and owning his own graphic design company. After succumbing to his true passion, Darren now operates his own interior design studio and has been a judge on numerous seasons of The Block.

Throughout history, colour has been routinely added to glass windows and ornaments to give them more of an aesthetic interest and significance within a space. Coloured glass has been used to tell stories and inject colourful patterns and imagery onto any space considered to be lacklustre. Until now, the days of coloured glass were a thing of the past, however what we’re seeing this spring is a re-emergence of the coloured glass trend in the form of pearlescent and iridescent finishes.

Interior décor has had a pearlescent reworking, with vases and glassware all reflecting the revamped trend. Anything previously clear and simple is being reimagined as a colour-distorting prism from which to view this new trend.

The vanguard of interior and product design, Patricia Urquiola, has even jumped to embrace the style, creating some amazing furniture pieces with bright, transparent and iridescent colours.

Glass dividing walls and shower screens have been amped up in interest by the application of pearlescent films that reflect an object in a whole new light. The extremes of this style aren’t for everyone, however as spring is typically all about embracing bright colours, why not embrace this trend in even the smallest of ways with a treated glass vase or votive.
