Glenelg Airbnb Renovation

Can you provide some insight into the home that you renovated; what was it like prior to the makeover?
A: The home had beautiful bones and character, but it was in need of a refresh. Some of the flooring options, like carpet in the hallway, were outdated and impractical for the space. Overall, the finishes were old and didn’t align with the home’s potential, so it was clear that it was time for an update to bring everything back to life.
Tell us about the style of the renovation; what inspired this look?
A: We wanted the home to feel like a beautiful beachside retreat, but we aimed to break away from the typical coastal look. Instead, we leaned into the home’s character, opting for a vintage, moody vibe while still maintaining that coastal feel. Using the Darling Oak flooring was key to achieving this – it added instant warmth while keeping the coastal touch.

Tell us about the carpet/flooring products that you used; what are their features and benefits?
A: Since the home is an Airbnb, our selections needed to look great but also be durable and easy to maintain. We used the Burke and Wills Vinyl in Darling Oak and the Rhapsody Weave Carpet in Magnitude. Both were perfect for the space - the vinyl is tough and ideal for high-traffic areas, while the carpet adds warmth and comfort, providing a luxurious feel for our guests.
Why did you select the Burke and Wills Vinyl in Darling Oak? In what areas has it been used and why?
A: We selected the Burke and Wills Vinyl in Darling Oak for high-traffic areas like the hallway, living areas, and kitchen. It’s durable, water-resistant, and offers the warm look of wood without the upkeep. It also complements other design elements while adding a natural feel to the space.
Why did you select the Rhapsody Weave in Magnitude for your home? In what areas has it been used and why?
A: We selected the Rhapsody Weave in Magnitude for the bedrooms. It’s soft underfoot, creating a cosy atmosphere, and its neutral tone blends perfectly with the overall design. We also love how easy it is to keep clean and the durability it offers for our guests.
What are your top five tips for selecting the perfect flooring or carpet for your room?
A:
- Durability: Choose materials that can handle the wear and tear of your space, like vinyl for hightraffic areas.
- Lifestyle: Consider your needs - if you have kids or pets, opt for easy-to-clean options.
- Colours: Select colours that complement your overall design - neutral tones are versatile and timeless.
- Texture: Select textures that impact both aesthetics and functionality. The type of carpet pile can affect cleaning and vacuum marks.
- Comfort: Make sure the carpet feels comfortable underfoot, especially in areas like bedrooms and living rooms!

How did you make an informed decision on your flooring and carpet selection? Did you review samples to see what colours and textures would and wouldn’t work in your home? Did you seek advice from an expert at Carpet Court?
A: We visited the Carpet Court showroom, spoke to an expert, and saw the samples in real life, which was invaluable. It helped us understand how the colours and textures would work in our home’s lighting and with other materials.
Did you consider any current interior/flooring “trends” when selecting your flooring/carpet? If so, please explain the inspiration behind your selections.
A: We focused more on timeless style than trends, though we did keep in mind the current love for natural finishes and neutral tones. The Burke and Wills Vinyl and Rhapsody Weave Carpet reflect these preferences while offering long-term durability and a classic appeal.
How long did the carpet and flooring process take with Carpet Court? Did you have to undertake any preparation before the install of each? Please provide details for the carpet installation process.
A: The process was very smooth. Once we made our selections, Carpet Court ensured the products were ready for us when we needed them onsite. The installer took care of levelling the floor where we had to lay the vinyl over the tiles, and the installation itself was seamless. The carpet installation was incrediblyfast and went off without a hitch!
What advice would you give to someone undertaking a renovation when it comes to upgrading your flooring/carpet?
A: Take your time and choose materials that will last. Flooring and carpet are long-term investments, so it’s important to consider both the practicality and aesthetic of your selections. Don’t hesitate to seek expert advice to ensure you get it right.
What was the biggest setback during your makeover, and how did you overcome it?
A: We were lucky not to face any major setbacks, but our biggest challenge was certainly the short timeframe for the renovation. Despite the tight schedule, we stayed focused and worked closely with the team at Carpet Court to ensure everything was completed on time and to our expectations.
