DREAM IT.
"There’s a visual language for designing a space in which you and the people you invite into your home can’t help but exhale,” says celebrity interior designer Darren Palmer.
“Aged wooden tables with knots and chairs with a few dings not only have the country look, they make you feel like you can live in a space, not live around the things inside it.”
Collect pieces with soul – they don’t have to match. “Just stick to two colours of timber and, to pull them together in one room, anchor both shades of furniture with other bits of décor in your line of sight.”
Complement oak with rattan, tan leather and brass; and walnut with brown velvet and a bronze object. For soft furnishings, Palmer says colours that go together in nature create a calming vibe inside. Brighten an autumnal leaf palette with green accents come summer or blush pinks and purples in winter.
Longevity should also be a focus. “You can now get carpets made with ECONYL® yarn, a regenerated nylon that feels soft and luxe but is incredibly durable,” he says. ECONYL® fibre is 100 per cent made from waste such as fishing nets, fabric scraps and old carpets destined for landfill – and not a single barrel of oil is used in its production. “It makes the sustainable option easy.”
STYLE IT.
STAY IN THE LOOP
“I love the large-loop Frontier and Expanse carpets. The pile is thick and linear so they feel lush yet really contemporise a country-inspired space.”
LIVE AND LET LIVE
Kids and pets have to feel at home, too. “ECONYL® yarn is dyed all the way into the core so the colour lasts better and, being synthetic, it’s incredibly water- and stain-resistant.”
CATCH THE SUN
“Check the UV resistance rating of your floor covering. Mid-tone carpets with a variation of colour throughout are your safest bets in direct sunlight.”
LIVE IT.
