The new bohemians – creating a charming and creative home

Welcome to Carpet Court’s latest look - the charming, creative and heartfelt Local Boho. It’s a colourful world of unique and eclectic homewares and a free-spirited use of colour, texture and pattern. Local Boho is pretty, unpretentious, nostalgic and soulful – layered with comfort and style in every room.

The Bohemian or Boho style has been a celebrated fashion and decorative look for decades, achieving prominence in the 1960’s as part of the ‘flower child’ era. Though, the modern boho look is less about counterculture, and instead celebrates a relaxed way of living that is perfect for our Australian way of life. Our yearning to reject the harshness of minimalism and the prescriptive rules around other interior styles - such as Scandi, Hamptons or Industrial style - is a result of the boho’s resurgence.

The main characteristics of the Local Boho look include the earthy colours – such as natural greens and blues – and natural materials and finishes, including pale timbers, rattan, linens and weaves. There is plenty of clashing patterns, a mix of vintage and eco-friendly contemporary furniture, and soft furnishings such as pillows, throws, cushions and rugs. This look shows an appreciation for cultural pieces and a healthy dose of maximalism – think piles of books, framed family mementoes, indoor plants, and contemporary and vintage art and photography.

The best attribute of the Local Boho look is that it doesn’t require a certain architectural style - you can inject the qualities of this style into contemporary or period homes, city, beachside or country homes and even apartments. All you need to do to create this look is unleash your creative self and let the decorating vibes flow.

To create the Carpet Court Local Boho home, we selected flooring and window furnishings that convey a relaxed, more organic look, with splashes of earthy colours throughout. For the entrance, kitchen and dining area, the Capitol Rigid Core in Hickory was the perfect product – it’s water resistant, hygienic and easy to clean. It’s also hard-wearing, pet friendly and is warmer and softer underfoot than traditional hybrid floors.

The addition of the S-Wave linen-look sheers in ‘Pearl’, transforms the kitchen into a bright and breezy space. I love watching the sheers sway gently in the breeze - they really do add a lot to a room.

The Local Boho living room is a haven of relaxed seating options which all sit beautifully upon the Beyond carpet in ‘Forrest’. This is an eco-friendly carpet, made using ECONYL® a 100% regenerated yarn that’s soft underfoot yet highly textural and hardwearing.

The loungeroom blinds are Transitional Plus made from a specialty PVC coated yarn woven into a 2x2 basketweave sunscreen fabric, making them perfect for our harsh Australian summer. This allows light and heat to be controlled, reducing heat transfer through windows and blocking 95% of harmful UV rays.

The Local Boho look works well in all areas of the home, but my favourite is the bedroom. Plump Euro pillows, embroidered cushions, vibrant bedding or bed sheets and a good old vintage style quilt will invite you to spend hours reading, daydreaming or snuggling with the family. The carpet is from the Latitude range, in the ‘Endless 29’ colourway. It’s a luxuriously.

Finally, the room that may have just become the new ‘must have’ for everyone is the home office – or in this case, the Local Boho creative studio office. The stunning Correa carpet in ‘Eucalyptus’ - a beautiful pale sage green is from Carpet Court’s 100% wool range – is incredibly resilient and stain resistant, perfect for creative spaces! The super-effective Contemporary Block Out blinds also come in a great range of colours, and paired with the pale grey-green of ‘Gull’ was the perfect option to complement the carpet.

We hope you love the relaxed, creative look of Carpet Court’s new Local Boho style and feel inspired to get creative in your own home.
